Wolcott Veterinary Clinic
Dear Mr. Lund:
We wanted to take a moment and drop you a line concerning how well we believe your
new swine feed growth promotant HOG MATE® is performing for our clients. We have
several feed test results that confirm what Century Hill Industries developed the
product for, mainly, improved feed efficiency and more rapid rates of gain. What
has thus far been a pleasant surprise to us is the fact that after removing antibiotics
from various swine rations that we have not seen an increase in disease problems
in these herds. In fact, we have had several clients state that they feel they have
seen healthier animals. In sow rations, in our opinion, HOG MATE® has been without
a doubt the best and most consistent laxative we have seen.
The best example we have that HOG MATE® has not resulted in more disease problems
is that one of our producers farrowed 100 sows and weaned the pigs into an open
front building last fall. These animals have never received any feed or water antibiotics,
only HOG MATE® in the feed. These animals are now 5 months old and most are weighing
in the 220-230 pound range and have never exhibited any cough. This producer had
another large group of hogs at another outside facility that has had considerable
pneumonia problems with a continuous level of Chlortetracycline in the feed. In
a couple instances where producers have developed a mild pneumonia in the grower
or finisher using HOG MATE®, the use of a feed or water antibiotic for a short period
has given rapid and tremendous results. It appears that the pigs, since they were
not on a constant level of feed antibiotics, had a very good positive response when
they were needed.

Mr. Lund, we wanted to take the opportunity to pass along some of our observations
concerning the field use of your new HOG MATE® product. While we do realize that
results from farm to farm will vary, we feel HOG MATE® has a definite place in swine
production. This is true especially at a time when public opinion and government
legislation is moving against the routine use of feed antibiotics. Should you have
any clients that would like to discuss with us what we have seen in our producers'
herds using HOG MATE®, please do not hesitate to have them give us a call.
Sincerely,
Dr. Len Fulkerson, DVM
POSSIBLE ADVANTAGES TO USING HOG MATE® AS OPPOSED TO FEED ANTIBIOTICS:
- Elimination of routine use of feed antibiotics.
- No market feed withdrawal to be concerned with.
- May decrease days to market and improve herd feed conversion.
- Emphasis is put on disease prevention, not control, and on good management, not
antibiotics.
- Better public acceptance of the pork product.
No claims, implied or otherwise, are made with the above information.
